Digital Voice |

Further to the message I circulated last December in relation to Digital Voice, I want to remind everyone that Digital Voice will impact on everyone from January 2027.
One particular issue that you need to be aware of is the fact that currently landlines operate even in the event of power cuts whereas from January 2027 landlines will not work in the event of a power cut. The following paragraph deals with the support available to BT Customers, however, customers with other Providers should get in touch with them if there is a need for support etc.
In order to deal with power cuts, BT will provide anyone over 75 years and vulnerable people with a free hybrid phone and battery pack that once charged will work the same as a mobile phone. However, its important that anyone over 75 and/or vulnerable contact their provider to ask what support is available to them and whether they qualify for a hybrid phone and battery pack.
The following reminds everyone about Digital Voice:
Landlines are changing, and the UK’s telephone network is going digital by January 2027. If you have loved ones with additional needs such as elderly relatives or someone who uses a telecare device or pendant alarm, BT’s Connected Together initiative encourages you to take a few simple steps to support them through the switch. BT’s Connected Together website is where customers, can access all the guidance and support they need. the following will guide you through the process. Start the conversation today.
I know that in some communities around the County, work is in place, especially areas where power cuts are common features, to provide a service of sorts where generators will be available in Village Halls etc to enable people to charge their mobile phones.
My request to those communities/groups is to share your arrangements with me so that I can circulate details throughout the County to allow others to follow such ‘good practice’.
Kind regards Joe Murray QPM | ||
